Helpful information about medical conditions

Medical history is one of the factors considered in the visa application process. To be considered for the programme, you will need to be in very good overall health. You will be living and working away from home, with new people and in new surroundings, while being responsible for someone else’s children – it is crucial that you are physically and emotionally capable of rising to this challenge!

As part of the application process you must have your GP complete and sign a medical form, provided by AuPairCare, which confirms that you are “capable of fully participating in the program as evidenced by the satisfactory completion of a physical” (US Department of State regulations. Click here to find out more). This medical form contains questions regarding both your physical and your mental health history.

You will also complete a personality profile as part of the interview. The wording on the US Department of State website says: “Such personality profile will be based upon a psychometric test designed to measure differences in characteristics among applicants against those characteristics considered most important to successfully participate in the au pair program".
