Your insurance during your stay as an au pair

As an agency, we at AuPairCare have a special responsibility for the safety of our au pairs. That is why it is very important to us that our participants are fully protected at all times.

In any area of life and work, situations may arise in which medical help becomes necessary or the property of others inadvertently damaged as a result of an accident or misfortune. During your stay abroad as an au pair, it could also be the case that you become ill and need to see a doctor, cause some damage or lose your luggage while traveling.

We have got you covered for all these circumstances. The benefits included in your insurance package cover most claims regarding liability as well as almost all medically necessary treatments. Your insurance is valid for the entire duration of your au pair contract.

Please note that the insurance package is not included in the program fees for our Australia and New Zealand programs, but must be purchased individually!

You want to travel after the programme or stay for longer?

Should you decide to travel after the au pair programme, you have the option to extend your insurance cover for the duration of your travels at your own expense.

These insurance policies are included:

  • Au pair health insurance

  • Personal liability and professional liability insurance

  • Accident insurance

  • Baggage insurance

What happens if you get sick or cause an accident?

If you spend a long time abroad, it is likely that you will catch an illness at some point during your stay. Thanks to your au pair health insurance, you are also insured abroad and can receive free medical treatment.

At the beginning of the programme, you will receive an insurance card/confirmation from our insurance partner which you should always carry with you. Outside of the EU, it is common to consult in-network doctors who works with your insurance company. That way, the doctor can handle the costs directly with the insurance company and won't ask you to pay in advance. You can find the addresses of suitable doctors in your area online or by calling your insurance company. In general, you will have to pay for smaller treatments in advance (and get reimbursed later), while, for example, more intensive hospital treatments will be settled directly with the insurance company.

In case of a serious emergency requiring immediate treatment you should visit the nearest emergency room or dial the emergency number 911 (999 for the UK). Keep in mind that it is important to always have your insurance card with you. You have to inform your insurance company as soon as possible about any necessary emergency treatment, at the latest within 48 hours.

If you accidently damage someone's property or lose your luggage, please report the claim immediately by filling out a claim form and sending it directly to the insurance company.
