Welcome to the land of the Kiwis. Before you meet your host family for the first time, your Au pair adventure in New Zealand begins with a fun and informative orientation run by our partner agency in the country’s major city Auckland. During three packed days you learn everything you need for a smooth start in New Zealand and get plenty of time to connect with other Au pairs. The orientation is part of the programme and already included in the fees.

Ready to be a Kiwi?

The Auckland orientation is the perfect way to settle into New Zealand. You’ll adjust to the new time zone and take care of all the essentials with help of our partner agency. From opening a bank account to applying for your IRD tax number, you’ll be ready to start work in no time. The orientation also includes theoretical driving lessons.

"Te Whāriki" - New Zealand's early education curriculum

Don’t worry about being unprepared! In Auckland, interactive workshops teach you the basics of New Zealand’s early education curriculum, how to interact with kids, guide their behavior, and build good relationships. First aid and CPR training are included, so you’ll be ready to start as an Au pair.

  • Yes. You can extend your stay as an au pair for up to 12 months. You can also split your Working Holiday Visa, spending 6–9 months as an au pair and using the rest of the time to travel around New Zealand.

  • Our au pair program in New Zealand doesn’t include insurance. We can, however, recommend a comprehensive package from our longtime partner DR-Walther starting from 40,50 €/month. Find out more about your au pair insurance in our guide.

  • Yes. Anyone in New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa has to pay income tax. The amount depends on how much you earn and how long you stay. You will get more guidance during your orientation in Auckland. Our partner agency is also there to support you with any questions that come up.

  • If you are a UK citizen you can apply for a second Working Holiday Visa. It gives you another 11 months in the country.

    Non UK citizens can extend their visa for three more months. You need to show proof of at least three months of seasonal work in areas like horticulture or viticulture. This includes jobs such as planting or picking crops. The work must be done after your time as an au pair. You can find more details on the official Immigration New Zealand website.
